Research Pooling in Scotland

Research Pooling in Scotland has developed as a basis for academic discipline growth and strengthening. The resulting enhancement of the research base has been significant as seen in measures such as citation indices and investment in research and knowledge transfer.

The first phase of research pooling subjects included: engineering; physics; chemistry; economics; life sciences; geological & earth sciences; marine sciences; informatics & computer science; and, mathematics.

The Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering (SRP-E) integrates international level research activity across Scotland in three regional partnerships: Glasgow (GRP), Edinburgh (ERPem) and Northern (NRP), within which a number of energy related Joint Research Institutes have been established in recent years:

GRP

ERPem

NRP

The further pooling of energy research activities across Scotland, delivered through the Energy Technology Partnership, is now one of the key thematic focus areas for SRP-E.
