Precipitation and deposition of high molecular weight paraffins in oil pipelines is a significant economic problem in the oil industry. Wax deposition can lead to a reduction in oil production, increased operational costs, health and safety and environmental problems. The whole pipeline may become blocked, requiring the plugged portion of the pipeline to be removed and replaced in order for the production to continue, at a cost of several million dollars.
