An Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) machine employing Halbach array offers a number of attractive features over a standard AFPM machine. The key points are the highly efficient and lightweight aspects which formed the basis of this undertaking. Amongst other things, this project will look at both machine topologies comparatively, and Magnetostatic 3D finite element analysis are considered, focusing on the flux density in the air gap, mass and torque density.
