Scottish Hydrogen Innovation: Making Hydrogen Count
A Hydrogen Innovation Programme (HIP) Event
Scotland is on the brink of a transformative opportunity and will play a critical role in implementing the revised upcoming UK Hydrogen Strategy. Scotland’s emerging hydrogen sector has access to the right ingredients to become one of the global leaders for hydrogen products and services development, and export. Given its strong commitment to net zero, Scotland can draw upon a vibrant innovation community, a breadth of research expertise and facilities, and, of course, it’s diverse and expansive renewable energy generation resources, including a world-class off-shore wind capability.
However, ambition alone isn’t enough - hydrogen must stack up economically to be an investable proposition. The cost equation is critical, and innovation will play a decisive role in reducing friction points, driving down costs, and making hydrogen commercially viable.
Making Hydrogen Count is not just another event. It is a day of interactive discussion and debate designed to tackle these challenges head-on and build a consensus on the most viable pathways to implement our ambitious and shared goals.
SPEERI will bring together the key actors in Scotland who are jointly-responsible for taking forward the Scottish Hydrogen Action Plan. The day will provide a platform to explore who, and what, is needed to enable a sustainable hydrogen economy - because no single body can deliver Scotland’s hydrogen ambitions alone.
Our panel discussions sessions will discuss the challenges and opportunities for commercialisation and internationalisation, investment strategies, technical feasibility, and innovation, across the whole supply chain.
These interactive sessions will examine how Scotland can leverage its renewable energy advantage to attract investment, create robust markets, and prioritise the infrastructure needed to develop strategic, and commercially viable projects and demonstrations, to validate business cases, and deploy scaled solutions.
This is not just about technology—it’s about creating the conditions for success.
This event is for anyone working across the hydrogen value-chain, within the whole hydrogen sector, including industry, policy-makers, academia, innovation support organisations, R&D facilities, and especially innovators. Join us as we uncover clearer pathways towards a hydrogen economy that works—economically, technically, and sustainably.
This event is being delivered under the Scottish Government-funded Hydrogen Innovation Programme by the Energy Technology Partnership (ETP), the energy arm of the Scottish Partnership in Energy and Engineering Research and Innovation (SPEERI).
