Weather-dependent renewables represent a large and growing share of electricity production in the UK and globally, increasing variability and uncertainty in energy systems. Actors in electricity markets require forecasts of supply, demand, and prices to
operate efficiently and maintain security of supply, and forecasting is increasingly complex as supply and demand become more weather-dependent. New statistical methods are required to quantify and communicate forecast uncertainty, particularly
where the inter-dependency between predicted supply, demand and price is critical to users. These will be developed in this project to support the large-scale integration of renewables and support decarbonisation more broadly.
