Performance optimisation of wind turbine blades with advanced composite textile skins

Supervisors - Dr. Marco Vezza, University of Glasgow and Dr. Matthew Stickland, University of Strathclyde

PhD Student - James Cairns, University of Glasgow

Status - Complete

This project will investigate, numerically and experimentally, the optimisation of aerofoil sections with flexible, advanced composite skins, applied to lightweight HAWTs. Development of morphing blades, with performance levels tolerant to a degree of skin distortion and other imperfections, is currently a major development area for the wind turbine industry.
