Accelerated development of screw anchors for floating wind

Supervisors - Prof. Michael Brown, University of Dundee and Roisin Buckley, University of Glasgow

PhD Student - Tayyib Jawid, University of Dundee

Status - In Progress

This project will develop the next generation of robust, cost effective and environmentally friendly anchoring solution to enable widespread deployment of offshore floating wind platforms. This will be based upon upscaling onshore screw piles for anchoring and developing them to work in a wide variety of ground conditions under harsh loading scenarios whilst optimising efficiency for deeper water use and anchor sharing to reduce costs. The project will require the use and development of advanced numerical and scaled physical model testing techniques. The work will be informed by the needs of industry in line with the national strategy for renewable energy.
