The academic GU/SU, and industrial AHH, team propose a PhD studentship to investigate the problem of dynamic stall on tidal turbines. The main aim is to provide knowledge and understanding of the 2D stall performance of specific AHH aerofoil sections, by providing 2D coefficient behaviour with angle of attack histories. A secondary aim of the project will be to advance the understanding of how the behaviour of turbine sections changes with the build-up of marine fouling. The final aim of the project will be to investigate and comment on how best to translate these 2D section tests to predict the performance of 3D turbines at full scale in water.
