Essential to the role out of CCS on a commercial scale is the ability to integrate the science of storage target performance, storage security and monitorability with the socio-economic demands of demonstrating a business case for developing a store, being able to meet regulatory demands and being able to obtain financial securitisation to transfer risk from what will ultimately be a portfolio of projects. This project takes a science led approach to working across this interface. This project is timely as such decisions can change the viability of CCS projects that are being debated in the near to intermediate future.

Specifically, in order to manage storage and security risks and hence be attractive to potential securitisation to we need to integrate several scientific research themes:

1. Fundamental knowledge of physical and chemical processes associated with the injection of CO2 into specific storage targets.

2. Computational impacts and transparent implication of assumptions when formulating the fundamental processes within a reservoir simulation

3. Propagation and management of epistemic and aleatoric uncertainties 4. Understanding of potential monitoring strategies that can be used to optimise a monitoring strategy with a cost-benefit framework to manage the risk.

Developing a methodology to manage risk in this way for a range of storage targets is the primary goal for the project.
